THERAPY, BRAIN HEALTH & AGING

How do I get started?

Practice full · waitlist open

Everyone begins with a free 15-minute consultation.

1

Free consultation

15 minutes to ask questions and see if we’re a good fit. Not a therapy session.

2

Waitlist

If we’re a good fit, I add you and write when a spot opens. If not, I offer referrals.

3

Secure forms

Intake and consent forms in the SimplePractice client portal.

4

Begin

Therapy or an evaluation, with a plan we agree on together.

Do you take insurance? What are the fees?

I’m private pay. We discuss fees in the free consultation.

Private pay

Out-of-network. Fees depend on the service.

Superbill

A receipt you can send to your insurer for possible reimbursement. Ask your plan about out-of-network mental health benefits first.

Sliding scale

A few reduced-fee spots. Currently full, with a waitlist.

Can you help with medical leave or disability?

Yes, when clinically appropriate. I can provide documentation for:

FMLA  ·  WA Paid Family & Medical Leave  ·  Short- & long-term disability  ·  Work or school accommodations

Your medical doctor

PCP, psychiatrist, or psychiatric NP

Evaluation with me

Psychologist

FOCUS

Diagnosis and medication

Testing, feedback & report, and ongoing therapy

SPEED & COST

Often faster and less expensive if in network

Out-of-network; openings limited (waitlist)

BEST FOR

A quicker path to documentation

A full picture of your symptoms and how they affect your work, with a treatment plan

How an evaluation with me unfolds:

Interview

~1 hour

Testing

2–3.5 hours

Scoring & report

1–2 weeks

Feedback

forms completed

The two routes work well together. For moderate to severe symptoms, medication plus psychotherapy helps more people than either alone (Cuijpers et al., 2014, 2020). With your permission, I coordinate with your doctor.

Have ready: your forms and deadlines, a short description of your job duties, and any prior records. No evaluation can guarantee approval. If you have a deadline, mention it when you join the waitlist.

Are online sessions private and secure?

Yes, with a few limits worth knowing.

✓  Confidential, on secure video platforms

✓  We agree on a backup plan and an emergency contact

✓  A secure video link before each session

✓  Join from a private, quiet space

✓  I confirm where you are at each session

✓  A laptop or phone with headphones is all you need

Legal exceptions, as in all therapy: serious risk of harm, suspected abuse or neglect, or a court order. All of this is in the consent form you review before we begin.

Which languages do you work in?

English  ·  Mandarin  ·  Taiwanese (Minnan)

Moving between languages in a session is welcome. I often guide clients to process childhood experiences in their first language, which allows for deeper processing.

Dr. Wen-Yu Cheng logo: moon, river path and a leafy neuron branch

THE LIVING MANDALA

The circle holds the journey toward wholeness. Moon, mountains, water, and path evoke the inner landscape; leaves speak to growth and the living body. As the branches reach beyond the circle, they become neurons—where nature meets neuroscience. The circle evokes the Self: a wholeness larger than the conscious ego, already present yet continually unfolding, becoming more deeply known and lived along the way.
